Hobby vs Practice

Student: Should I put down my hobby once I become a Zen practitioner? Master: People think they need to put down their hobbies, attachments, say play chess, then they can go to practice, and that they have more power to practice.  No.  If you can not play chess well, neither can you practice well.  This is a very important idea. If you have the control of your mind and if you realize the universal principals and follow the principals, you will be able to apply the truth to all aspects.  Not only you can accomplish your goal in mundane life, but also you can accomplish your goal in spiritual practice.  So we can not separate the mundane life from the spiritual reality.  They are together.

So true, he knows that he does not know! An opposite interpretation is that he did not trust because if he IS the Buddha, how can he lose it? The thought of maintaining is the dust that took him away from the moment of awakening.
