What Is Real?

Student: What is real? Master: The moment you achieve enlightenment, you will realize it.  Before you achieve enlightenment, nothing is real.  Nothing real means that everything is real; but based on our self attachment, we distort everything.  Because of this, nothing is real.  Can you understand?  Everything is here but we distort everything because we define everything according to our self-attachment.  We distort the reality.  That is why nothing is real.

Have you ever heard the saying "reality is in the eye of the beholder"? This goes hand in hand with what Master is telling us. The majority of the time we confuse reality with perception. You know it is only a perception when everyone has a different way of seeing a situation as we allow our emotional or physical "baggage" to define how we see it. The truth is that reality is not based on any one person's emotions or physical attachments to a situation. Reality is what it is and once we learn to step outside and truly see the situation, will we know when it is a reality. Many times we do not see reality until after a situation has passed and we were able to truly look back without any emotion or physical attachment.
