Six Senses

Student: Master, how do the six senses come from? Master: Every single person possesses a mind.  The mind knows everything and manifests everything.  That means the mind creates and manifests the whole picture.  The whole picture includes our thoughts, physical body, environment, and relationship. The six senses (eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and feeling), are part of the manifestations and are the creations of our mind. Without the six senses, we don't have a path or a way to practice. We, human beings, have illusions. Most of us think that we are individual persons, we have identities, and we isolate ourselves from the whole picture, our own creation.  Our physical body is only the little portion of the whole picture.  Through the six senses, we try to contact or connect the individual physical bodies with the environments which are also manifested and created by our own mind.  We try to realize the whole picture.  This is totally an illusion! Think of this, on a large land, we build a house; from the house, we also build six boulevards connecting the house to outside.  Like a house on a large land, our physical body is in the manifestation of our mind.  The house is only a small portion of a large land and so is our physical body which is only a little portion of the manifestation of our mind.  We have our mind working for us, so that through the eyes, we can see; through the ears, we can hear; through the feelings, we can feel.  It is just like six boulevards connecting to the house, the six senses are connecting to our physical body.  The six senses of a blind person are like six boulevards of the house, but one of them is blocked---the vision, because of his karma, loses the vision from the six senses. We use our eyes to see things.  But, remember---- without eyes, the phenomenon is still there.  Although a blind person cannot see his environment and phenomenon, his mind still knows that he cannot see the environment.  The knowing is still there. The six senses, the six boulevards, are karma of human beings. Without the six boulevards, we don't know where to go.  Out of attachment, we separate our physical body and six senses from the whole picture.  We try to connect the outside world through our six senses. Actually without the six senses, we are still alive and still can manifest the reality.  And since it is a huge land, we can go anywhere and build the house any spot we prefer.  Instead of six boulevards, we can build more boulevards. But still if we separate ourselves from the whole picture, no matter how many senses we get, we will never realize the true reality.
